Hey guy's Hippie here... So You want to grow using DIY techniques.
We have some awesome threads here for you then...However something to consider, If you are confused by something or don't understand how something works don't just start a thread to ask your question. Try referencing the FAQ section first, Particularly the OvergrowFAQ link, reading others post in current threads and seeing if maybe others know the answer to your problem, and when all else fails there is always google.com...
If you go through the FAQ's, current threads, peoples personal accounts of said projects, and google and are still find yourself lost then post a thread with your question. And remember if you think a member you know may know the answer just PM them, most are happy to help.

So please do your part to keep the forums looking clean and professional.

P.S. Anyone who tries any of these DIY projects please post pics and comments in corresponding thread to share with other's, even if you make mistakes others as well as you can learn from them.
