You may be asking yourself, what's the challenge? Well... The challenge is for a blind man (me) to be able to grow, dry and cure his own meds. In addition, I am a newbie.
Here's where I am so far. I am using a 3 x 3 x 5 foot tent and a 300w LED from Mars Hydro. I am using soil, and I will post the recipe and feeding schedule in the next post. The girls are 1X Blue Trickle, 1 X Rhino Rider and 1X Polar E Express. They are all autos and are all 17 days old. One thing of note is a special surprise. The blue trickle popped up in the same pot as the Polar Express somehow. So we transplanted her, and my wife says she looks good and happy with no signs of stress at all..
Obviously, I welcome any suggestions, criticisms, help or anything else you would like to donate to the cause, so to speak.
Thank you in advance, and may God bless.

    [b]Soil Recipe & Feeding Schedule
    [/b}

The soil mixture I used has been proven very effective, and the ingredients are all available at most Lowe's and Home Depot stores. The average cost should be around $50. I listed the amount I paid for each one so you can see.

    Alaska Fish Emulsion (5-1-1) $7.98

Miracle Gro Liquid Quick Start (4-12-4) $8.97

    Epsoma Bio-Tone Starter+ Organic (4-3-3) $8.47

32 QT. Harvest Superpowered Organic Potting Mix (0.1-0.5-0.5) $6.98

8 Qt. Miracle Gro Perlite $4.24

    2x 4Lbs. Natural Coarse Sand $3.97

1 Bottle BlackStrap Molasses* (Grocery Store) $5.00

    Total: $49.58

The goal of the soil is to give as much myco activity as possible, this means there will be live fungus and bacteria in your soil that will help the plant grow by increasing root activity. As well, the soil needs water retention AND good drainage. This soil contains dolomite lime to balance pH @ 6.5, this is intended for those who have no access to PH meters. While it's always advised to have a meter, if you use just what's recommended here a lock-out is unlikely to happen unless you're watering with >9 or <5 PH water. Most tap water does not fall in this range. Here's the soil mixture recipe I used and the feeding schedule:

First thing you want to do is get a bin or tub large enough to mix all of your components.
Next cut open your bag of Potting Mix and dump it in the bin, after this you want to use 0.5TBSP per QUART of potting mix, so with 32 quarts of potting mix, you want to mix in ONE CUP (measure) of Bio-Tone Starter+ into your potting mix. Sprinkle half a cup, mix thoroughly, when you think you're done mixing, mix more. Pour the other half of cup in and repeat, remember the more mixing, the better. Once you've mixed in all of your Bio-Tone Starter+ get your bag of perlite and poke holes in the bottom of it, rinse it through in the tub or something to get rid of all of the dust. This step isn't required but it's advised. Once you're done rinsing the perlite, pour half the bag or 4 quarts in. The exact amount isn't as important as it was to measure out the bio-tone, perlite has no nutrients in it. Again, mix thoroughly - much like you did with the bio-tone.. the bio-tone is small and hard to see the perlite is larger and you'll know when you have an even consistency. Once you're done mixing this, pour in your two bags of Natural Coarse Sand (this stuff looks like gravel more so than sand, you'll see when you have an even
    consistency.

*This* soil mixture and feeding schedule will NOT burn your plants with the soil mixture above.

Week 1 (Three true leaves) - 1TSP Fish Emulsion per gallon of water.

Week 2 - 1.5 TSP Fish Emulsion per gallon of water.

Week 3 - 2 TSP Fish Emulsion per gallon of water

Week 4 - 2 TSP Fish Emulsion per gallon of water

Week 5 - 2 TSP Miracle Gro Quick Start per gallon of water + 1TSP Blackstrap Molasses

Week 6 - 3 TSP Miracle Gro Quick Start per gallon of water + 1TSP Blackstrap Molasses
    *
Week 7 - 3 TSP Miracle Gro Quick Start per gallon of water + 1TSP Blackstrap Molasses

    eek 8 - Plain water + 1TSP Blackstrap Molasses

Week 9 - Plain water + 1TSP Blackstrap Molasses The molasses gives cal-mag boost, you can use it in veg if needed, but you should have enough cal-mag between the dolomitic lime available in the soil and the bio-tone to get you to week 5. If you start to notice any Cal-Mag def at all, use 1TSP of Molasses for one of the waterings during week 3 & 4, otherwise use the same schedule the entire grow.

They are all beautiful. It looks like they are reachi g for the light. If you lower your light a little they will stop growing so tall. I also have a fluorescent light bulb beside my girls. They have light from above and the sides.

Smopp & Osprey... thanks for these responses. Welcome to both of you! I will try lowering the light a little bit, it is at approximately 20 inches above them at this point. They have not been fed anything at all yet. The soil is staying very very moist on its own. I will try to see if I can afford a small fluorescent to go on one side. That's a great idea.

These pictures were taken on exactly three weeks since sprouting. They have had two feedings of fish emulsion one and one half teaspoons per gallon and 2 teaspoons per gallon respectively. Other than that nothing else has changed since my original post.

They look like happy little buggers. More light is almost always better. Almost.

Welcome to the site and thanks for taking us on this lil journey of yours. Im with Osprey on this and really looking forward to seeing what you manage to pull down.
Not a big fan of ruderalis but I'll move past that, lol, more light is always better and good ventilation is a must. I dont know what kind of light you are using but if its a HID 20' is gonna be a lil close for them babies in my opinion. If you're using any other form of lighting 20'" should be ok.
What kind of fans do ya have going on in that lil tent if ya dont mind me asking?

sorry it took so long for me to get back to you guys. My wife suddenly came down with bronchitis that led to pneumonia, so I had to deal with that.
Unmeg...the lighting is being provided by a Mars Hydro 300w LED. Due to budgetary constraints of being on Social Security Disability because of my blindness. I am simply using two seven inch clip-on fans one pointed over the tops of the girls to give them a breeze and another on the opposite side clip backwards to exhaust the air. It goes directly out of a window.
Osprey...thanks. two of them gave us quite a surprise yesterday. We went to take some pics of them as they were four weeks it's sprouting exactly. In my next post, you'll see the surprises. Thanks to you guys for following along. If this is interesting enough... Invite your friends! :thumb:
